will houses be considerate of girls who had to appeal to rush due to matters affecting their GPA? I feel like even with the appeal maybe I shouldn't rush because I might get cut when they see my gpa. I don't know whether it would be better to wait, my heart is breaking because I just want this to be a good experience and don't want the house I could potentially be perfect for to cut me for this reason.

I know girls in quite a few different houses who rushed with appeals. Houses with lower gpas are probably more likely to take girls with appeals

If they like you enough, the appeal won't matter. Stuff happens that can impact your grades. If it looks like a short term/easily controlled issue, you wouldn't necessarily be a grade risk. I wouldn't worry, just be open to the fact that you are not as "competitive."

I know 2.8 was the minimum to participate but what houses have a higher standard for consideration? My D is getting ready to go through rush and GPA is not an issue but we heard several houses have a higher standard for GPA.

Sorry GPA does matter! Don't be surprised if cut from houses with less then 3.0. Especially from top academic house. You can find who they are check under grades. Fraternity/Sorority Greek life.

Yes gpa matters but op was asking about appeals which is a different situation entirely. You're better off having an appeal than having a 2.8 gpa

Appeals do help, but in all honesty it will depend on the house.

There are some houses (for instance the one I was in) that do consider the appeal, but even after listening to that appeal it went strictly on who talked to that PNM and how highly she was rated. If she was loved by the chapter, she has a better chance of staying within their process.

I can't post the link here, but if you Google "Indiana University GPA Sororities" and click on the first link: It takes you to the student affairs website. The title is "Academics: Fraternity and Sorority Life: Student Life and Learning." - You can click on the different academic semesters that have pdfs that show the average house GPA's. I'm not saying you shouldn't try at some of these houses with the higher GPA's, but you should keep that in mind if you get cut from those houses.

Thanks for the information to the report. Very impressive on the Avg. GPA's reported by all the Sororities. I can see where people who are at the minimum required to go through might have a harder time. Glad my D is well above the average for all houses.
