rich girls getting bids
by: hmmSome posts mention how top tier sororities choose pretty rich girls, during rush how do sororities know which girls have a lot of money?

Top houses definitely do this more but it's not exclusively a top house thing. It is the girl who rushes yous job to try to figure out if the you can afford a sorority bc girls who can't sometimes still rush and then drop before initiation which is obviously something sororities try to avoid. Rich girls tend to flaunt their money so it's really not hard to tell who is rich. Houses shouldn't ask specifically about how much money your parents make but that doesn't mean it never happens if that does happen and it makes you uncomfortable you can report it. That being said I know plenty of girls in top houses who aren't rich and plenty of girls in bottom houses who are disgustingly rich

The reason chapters want to know if your family if financially stable is that they don't want to extend a bid to someone who finds out they can't afford it and drops, or drops out of school due to financial hardship. They really, for the most part, are not trying to socialize with only "rich people". There are people in all chapters that do have money and those that don't. Being a legacy or having family members who are Greek is a plus because those parents are probably going to pay those bills and they won't mind it, knowing you are carrying on the family tradition. Those who have parents that were not Greek, may think it is superficial and an unnecessary expense. Less supportive parents= less likely to meet your chapter's financial commitments.
