rant!
by: HoosierInsiderThe sorority recruitment system here sucks!! It is so unfair and every year over 500 girls don't get in a sorority. It is because they all have stupid live-in rules where you have to live in at least two years. This greatly limits the amount of girls they can take. We have one of the biggest Pan-Hel presence of any other campus, just added the 21st Pan-Hel sorority, but the thing is, sorry to say most girls do not want to be in the two w/o houses. They want to live in a pretty mansion. This problem could be solved and get more girls involved in the Greek system if the houses did optional live-ins. It works at other big schools (Wisconsin, Texas, Ole Miss). Last year over 1600 girls rushed and over 800 dropped/decativated/didn't get a bid. It is flawed! And no, I am not some angry GDI!

so you're saying it's unfair because 500 girls out of 1600 didn't get a bid? You do realize that most people actually do get a big somewhere, right? If not, it's because they dropped, got cut from recruitment, or didn't want the bid they got. Doesn't seem unfair to me... sororities aren't clubs, they're organizations founded on principles and values and with the purpose of finding more girls who share those values. If 500 something girls didn't fit in anywhere, it's hardly our fault. Obviously housing limits the amount of people per pledge class, but the quota is calculated by panhellenic, not by individual chapters so it's not a causal situation. The live-in requirement exists obviously for money but it goes far deeper than that and is actually very beneficial for the members, but according to you since 2 out of 22 chapters are unhoused, then everyone else should be? How is that even close to fair? Deal with what you got, and if you didn't get a bid, I'm sorry but you can find friends in other places.

It could happen. The way of figuring how many to a pledge class is intended to give every girl a bid. However because so many can’t hack it and drop. It usually ends up around 55.
