rush for transfer student
by: transfer studentI'm currently a freshman at Bama right now but I'm thinking of transferring to IU in the fall. I was in a sorority at Bama but dropped right before initiation so I could rush again at a different school. I know Bama's rush is the most competitive in the nation, but how similar is it to IU's? What are my chances as a sophomore transfer student? What do sororities value the most when selecting pnms? I know at Bama grades, connections, and involvement are the things most looked at. Not sure if it matters, but I'm also from Chicago.

Let's do some real comparisons...
Number of women who registered for recruitment at IU: 1941
Number of women who registered for recruitment at Bama: 2875
Number of women who attended open houses at IU: 1654
Number of women who attended open houses at Bama: 2438
Total number of PNMs released by all chapters at IU: 7
Total number of PNMs released by all chapters at Bama: 62
Total number of PNMs in bid matching who were matched at IU (1st, 2nd or 3rd choice): 1,199 - 94%
Total number of PNMs in bid matching who were matched at Bama: 2,291 - 99%
It is also important to note that 40% of the women going to preference at IU did NOT list all options on their pref card.
The bottom line is that at Bama, the majority of women trust the process and realize that being in a sorority is an experience they want to have, and accept that the process will place them where they belong. At IU, women only want to be in the "top tier" and so they drop out of recruitment completely OR they don't maximize their options.
Roll Tide!

For OP's situation I really hope there are multiple people transferring from Alabama who plan to rush as sophomores. One issue with these forums is while they are anonymous it doesn't take a private investigator to connect the dots and learn who the actual person is.
In all honesty if someone dedicated the time they can search FB using Boolean searches and find out who this person is. OP, id be very careful about what you post on social media especially with the keywords indiana university and Alabama.

I agree with your comment about girls at Bama wanting to actually join a sorority for the experience, but those numbers aren't accurate if you are talking about this past fall. Alabama set a record for having over 3000 girls register and go through rush. That's why this upcoming rush, registering is first come, first serve. Not every girl will be able to rush because the number is far too many and the houses can't hold anymore girls. Also, it's 91% of girls getting bids, not 99%. After the first round, it was said that 1000 pnms got dropped/dropped out. But there were a lot of things that happened during rush, like the system accidentally dropping girls that weren't suppose to get dropped and so on.
