chill out about sigma kappa
by: pnmI'm a PNM and all the sigma kappas I've met are pretty chill and cool. They aren't weird at all. I personally could see them getting good pairs, because hot guys should like them (but I don't really know how that works.) Not sure why people are so heated about them. I don't think they're doing anything wrong. They are now moving into a house, and I think "good for them." I really don't get what the problem is. And it's annoying that ppl keep saying bad things about the chapter, because lots of girls genuinely like it and will feel insecure about joining cause they don't want to be bullied. Just let them be! I also bet that some people are threatened by them, but I really don't know. Either way, people just gotta cool it

Sigma Kappa is like the new girl that came to your high school in the middle of the year. You were totally happy with your own friends (pairs) until she came in and tried to take them away from you. She was extremely rude to the first few friends that talked to her and left them in the dust until she could find better friends. She was even rude to your own friends in order to climb up the ladder. And you can't help but hate her because you treat your friends with respect while she doesn't always show that. Sometimes, but not always. In two-three years, she'll become normal and your community will find someone else to hate, but for now, she's the one in the spotlight for better or worse.

It's more like the girl who transferred to your school during the middle of the year but had a lot more going for her than a bunch of girls with poor social lives so those jealous girls started a campaign of hate against the new girl. Chill out. They have a strong national that can afford a house and yours can't.

What's wrong with you? Sigma Kappa had the financial resources to get a house. Nothing was stopping the poor unhoused chapters from getting one except for themselves. It has nothing to do with "deserving" a new house, it has everything to do with nationals being willing to invest in a house. DPE, ASA and TPA aren't willing to support their chapters that way. That isn't SK's fault. Stop being so damned jealous and work on your sisterhood, not on rudely spreading untrue gossip about others.

Here's the thing about SK, and I'm a senior in a fraternity so I don't have much stake in this. They bailed on many of the pairs they had their first year on campus, in order to tier climb because they are the most attractive unhoused sorority.
There are ways to tier climb, and if I was in their position I would definitely try to meet as many guys as possible in all the fraternities. However, there's something called honoring commitments. We schedule our pairs months in advance, we budget for drinks and we make brothers sober. SK would not send sisters nor would they send sobers, they just wouldn't show up. Or, they would send like 20 girls for half an hour and then ask our drivers to take them to other houses. I get that I'm part of a lower tier fraternity but please have some courtesy. It's very easy to have a pair until midnight and then we open it up so the pair is over.

And then, the same night as our pairs we would hear from friends in other fraternities that groups of SKs were showing up at THEIR pairs, some intoxicated and others a risk. There were rumors of SKs going to pairs (as they were about to open up) and pose as girls from other sororities.
SK made their presence known by rushing very hard and trying to jump the tiers as fast as possible. They weren't very professional, kind, or mature. From what I can tell the leadership has no idea how geeek life works and the sorority is a runaway train. I also know many girls in unhoused sororities who have been waiting for years to get a house and SK just shows up, gets a house, and leaves everyone in the dust. The girls in unhoused sororities have put in tons of money, time, and effort into making Greek Life better for everyone, SK just reaps the rewards and tries to push everyone down as they climb.

The uhoused chapters here could be housed if their nationals had cash, they don't so they stay unhoused. That's their own doing.
If. Phi Sigma Sigma came back they would have a house too as their nationals has &$$

Not true, Phi Sigma Sigma is one of the smaller nationals, on a lot of commuter campuses. One of my friends from high school is a Phi and they don't have a house not impressed their programs, etc.

I don't even think the other sororities tried to get the house so why should SK have held back? That would be dumb if they turned down that opportunity lol

First of all, it wasn't SK's nationals who forked over the cash to get the house - they have a huge group of alum from this chapter before it was shut down back in the day.
Second of all, PSS is a tiny national. They only have chapters at a handful of big schools. They also just finished colonizing at MiamiU so they're probably looking at getting a house there before they even think about coming to IU.
As for our other unhoused chapters, TPA and ASA are also tiny but they don't seem to have a lot of big commitments right now so they could be next to pursue a house. DPhiE is renovating their new house at UGA so probably not, and SDT just colonized at UK so they may also take their time in pursuing a house.

I'm from a state where DPE is much more common and it seems like they have a house on all the campuses where housing is the norm. Why haven't they invested in one here? I don't know any DPEs at IU or else I'd ask them. Like, one of the first things their Syracuse and MIT chapters did was get a house. Are they not invested in their IU chapter?
Never heard of ASA or TPA till I came to IU so no idea what their housing situation is like at other campuses since they aren't as big on the east coast.

Obviously a SK wrote this not a PNM. PNMs don't care about this. They care about sleeping and how many chapters everyone got invited back to. This is why SK drives people nuts, because they are constantly on GR posting this pretending they are someone else.
SK is not a big national, but not the smallest either. They aren't big enough to throw money at a house. Local housing corporations raise and build, not nationals. They are actively raising and will get there, but for now they are renting Phi Psi. Who cares? SK stop caring about stupid posts against you. You embarrass yourself.

I'm the pnm who wrote this and I just told my genuine feelings. Idk what else to say. Obviously a ton of PNMs are on this forum. And I feel bad Bc I like the chapter but I would never join because it gets shat on so much

How can you prove that a pnm didn't write this wtf? Your just as ridiculous, taking time out of your day to go on GR to post a whole paragraph about putting down sigma kappa lmfao what? I can assure you, a pnm probably DID write that, because as I've gone through rush I've gone through the same feelings. I love the house and the girls I just wish these rumors would stop. And before you tell me I'm an SK girl to, I'm actually not lol. And either way it doesn't matter my points stay true

Honestly, SK has a hard time getting any pairs nowadays because they are on the rocks with so many frats. They are banned from Lambda and other frats because they are snitches and tell on frats for anything. Frats are scared to have them over and won't let you in if you are SK. They only ever pair with unhoused frats.

is it really asa, tpa and dphie creating drama or houses pretending to be them stirring up drama?
anyway, i'm in a housed chapter but i wish all sororitys at IU had houses so there wasn't a whole separate category of unhoused sororities. i get that not everyone wants to live in; maybe they could try to find smaller houses to live in?
