does anyone sort of lose respect for

wealthy kids that went to top private high schools but ended up here? Whenever someone says they went to Cranbrook, Country Day, NDP, UDJes or Mercy I'm like what the eff why did you pay so much money for high school to end up at a state school? If I was rich with mediocre stats I'd at least go to like Loyola-Chicago or something, you know.

If they came here after private hs it's because their parents couldn't swing private college tuition. Big difference between $13k for Brother Rice and $40k - 60k for a private or out of state college. I would have gone to Miami if my folks could afford it.

State is great but if I was rich w same grades/ACT I would have def bounced to Loyola, Miami (OH), Dayton, or George Washington.

Nice schools but 2x the tuition and no football scene. A lot of people want to watch athletics bro-ski.

Depends on what your major is. MSU has some of the best programs in the country so why wouldn't you go here and only pay in-state tuition??

90% of State is dirt. 90% of Miami is rich preppy kids.

by: Har har

Sounds like you could not get into Msu !!!! Kids in high school who needed a smaller class size to function attended Loyola ,Miami of Ohio. They were the kids who were tutored in everything, needed extra time to finish exams and college placement tests.3

A private college will take any student who can afford their over priced tuition therefore, they take anyone. Msu is competitive they can pick and chose the best .

A private school does not take anyone who can afford it! Notre Dame, Duke, Stanford, and on and on...... Are some of the hardest schools to get into. That being said MSU is harder to get into than both Loyola and Miami( which by the way is a public school)

Miami of Ohio is a PUBLIC college. $45,000 a yr for non-residents tho

Loyola-Chicago avg ACT: 24-29
Miami of Ohio: 26-30
MSU: 23-28
Dayton: 24-29

Acceptance rates: all 60-70%

They're peers from an admissions pov. But privates and OOS tuition are 2x the cost of MSU.

It is a personal choice! If you were accepted at MSU you were most likely accepted at Miami and Loyola and vice versa. The schools are very different. if you want a large school with big 10 sports etc... You chose MSU. If you want urban you chose Loyola. If you want small school in middle of Ohio were Greek life rules the social scene you chose Miami. Who cares this is almost as ridiculous as all the arguing about top tier sororities.

I attended A college prep high school and the college advisers Directed the students who had a lA different learning stylei or needed a smaller class size to go to the smaller schools like Miami of Ohio Loyola in Chicago.Michigan State is known for its prestigious Lyman Briggs Collegewhich those smaller schools do not have

Nothing prestigious about Lyman Briggs. There's no screening, anyone can be in LBC. Look at the survey data for MCAT scores and med school placement- it's straight up sad. Of course our medical school is mostly MSU alums, but there's 40,000 kids here...

I went to Detroit Catholic Central but I won a full tuition scholarship here. I agree that if you went to a prep school and couldn't at least get a scholarship to come here you're probably a f-ck up.

You want me to lie? Everyone was salty when they got rejected from Michigan. Nobody pays $13k for Catholic or $25k for CK/Country Day to get into MSU. Just being real here.

Work hard and try and transfer if that is what you want. In the meantime show some respect for MSU and your fellow classmates.

First, the reason people are rich is because they invest their money where they will get the best ROI. Private schools prepare you for college. My guess is few private school kids have any trouble at MSU and most are extremely successful because we are truly prepared.

Michigan State is ranked higher in Forbes and I bet has a better career placement than Miami of Ohio. Yes, your experience at Miami may be better overall, but in the end, if you are in a sorority or fraternity at MSU, is there really a big difference? I went to a prep school and my parents are making contribute to my education. No free lunch, and I am fine with this. They could easily pay any amount. I am learning the value of money and saving myself and my parents over $100K. My parents would have paid for a top-ranked private college, but that didn't happen.
