Phi Mu is a southern sorority. This is not the south.

Well, a majority of sororities were founded in the northern and midwestern states. However, there are certainly groups that have a southern vibe to them, like Phi Mu.

But those sororities have also been here for over 60 years now. Of course they're going to be established.

Even though they may have been here for 60+ years, they all started out with nothing themselves and look how far they all came at UA. All it takes is a dedicated, loyal and committed founding class to build a chapter successful from the ground up and continue that path for the next generations. All the other Greeks at UA did the same thing. There is NO difference.

I see your point, but ADPi has been here for over 60 years and they are not exactly what anyone would say is a strong house. Chi O and DG has been here for 90+ years. Sooo, 1 very strong house out of 3 over nearly a century?

I guess a loyal and committed group could propel Phi Mu or whatever to be a strong house 90 years from now in 2105, but that's a ridiculous proposition. What will really make or break our next sorority is whether or not they have a house like all the other long-standing sororities here do.

Is the hot facey house in most of the SEC. UA could do worse.

Houses may have first started their chapter that long ago but I'm pretty sure adpi has only been back for 7/8 years and when most houses get kicked off, frats too, you have to start from scratch. Just like how axo is new here, it takes time.

greek life is strong in the SEC bc ppl there define themselves by their house affiliation. girls literally transfer out if they dont get into a top house. alums attend house events regularly and vote on rushees. it's pathetic. we don't have any of that crap out west bc ppl here are smarter than that and have actual lives beyond the greek scene, lol.

as someone from the south, I'll say that even though many frats/sororities didn't START there, it's where they're the biggest and most prominent. Rush for girls is so intense that they literally have rush coaches available for hire. However, it's not actually as bad as what 'haha' said. Once rush is over, most girls are fine with where they end up. (not to mention that a bottom house at an SEC school isn't exactly equivalent to bottom house anywhere else in the country..)
