If the university is revoking their recognition that IS "kicking them off campus." When people talk about frats getting kicked off campus they don't mean the students are expelled from school. It just means the fraternity loses its charter.

Losing recognition does not kick them off campus. Read the last comment. Losing recognition from the university only accounts for registered events and such. You don't know what their nationals has said yet and that's why they aren't "kicked off." Once their nationals have them booted, THEN they get kicked off. Right now they can operate as a fully functional fraternity as long as their nationals keep them

If your definition of then getting kicked off is that they just don't have recognition, then I guess. BUT that's why I said if they are a top tier fraternity losing recognition it won't affect them because they can operate as a a functional fraternity since they have such a good status socially.

Right. Also, if the school kicks you off but nationals doesn't, you can still keep the letters on your house.

However it gets more complicated if the university owns the house.

They only just came back like 4-5 years ago.

Oops I meant to say Kappa Sig is kicked off until -at least- Fall 2021, not Spring, for substance abuse violations. I'll let you read between the lines and figure out what it is. KSig nationals can apply to recolonize in 2021 but there's no guarantee that they will be allowed to recharter by their national HQ or the UA.

Lease of the house isn't is easy as awarding it to the highest bidder. It's more based on getting the new frat to abide by certain conditions regarding property modifications and facility improvements set forth by Kappa Sig's housing corp.

Whoever moves in will not be allowed to remove certain Kappa Sig pieces of architecture (but they can conceal or cover them up) and must submit a 48-month investment plan to fund housing improvements and back out all the wear and tear. This is because Sig Chi altered the building the last time Kappa Sig was kicked and it was prohibitively expensive to revert after Sig Chi moved out.

Right now the only ones who are interested in renting the house are AKL and TKE, and I was told there's a third interested party that I would never expect, but my contact wouldn't say who... maybe a rogue Delt or Fiji chapter? Or that new sorority ASA? If not a Greek house then Residence Life will take over the Kappa Sig house and covert it into grad student housing.

Pike will get the former KS house. They have way more UMD alumni support ($$$) than some of these newer frats that don't have any UMD alumni connection.

Close to zero chance Pike rents out the Kappa Sig house.

I lost count, but I heard it was at least 4 times. This could be the 5th.

There is actually some truth to that. Apparently the latest word is that Kappa Sig is "working" with the UA administration on lesser sanctions in lieu of being kicked off of campus outright. The local chapter already has the support of their Nationals on this. Apparently their alumni and housing corp have some major pull among decision makers within the university so they may end up staying after all. Politics, it's crazy.

Kappa Sig is still prepared to lease its house if they end up getting kicked off. Nothing has changed since yesterday, three interested parties but no details on who the house might go to.

It's a long weekend, so no update.

Don't be too sure. This school has been kicking off fraternities in the last 4 years.
