literally everyone loves california so tons of people apply there and getting in to a ca school has become super competitive. it's also sometimes harder to get in because they want out of state kids for the extra money. since they can be so selective they also rarely give out scholarships. a ton of socal kids go to asu too and it's just close by and warm just like so cal

The above is true. In my high school many of us had USC and UCLA as our top picks for college. Of course some got in but quite a few of us that did not get in ended up at U of A and actually Boulder was another really popular one with my grade. A lot of CA schools are all strong academically but I feel like those of us who didn't get in still wanted a well known, large sized university. Plus I can't speak for Boulder but UofA has a lot of conventionally beautiful people, similar to the southern California stereotype.
