I accepted a bid to one of the houses after talking to them for 30 minutes. How am I supposed to know if I fit in? I agree, so I'm dropping the bid and waiting for the fall

I hate to break it to you but formal recruitment is pretty much the same thing. You probably won't talk to the same girl for more than 30 minutes. You take to several girls for like 5 minutes each. Just saying. It's actually a lot more fake and forced than informal.

i really didn't want to wait until the fall but after talking to a few sorority girls they said fall rush was better because 1. you have way more options and 2. you learn a lot more about each house

Seriously? You thought you'd be the only one? Tons of sophomores rush. You'll probably have a few just in your RC group. There's probably at least a hundred sophomores who go through formal recruitment every fall.

I'm an exchange student studying for one semester as a sophomore, do you think there is any point me rushing if I leave in January 2018?

No. Please do not rush. That would be incredibly unfair to everyone involved. Someone will have to take you as a little, only to have their little leave the country after one semester. And she'll have to have spent probably hundreds of dollars on you.

You'll be taking up a spot in a pledge class that could otherwise go to a girl who wants to stay all 4 years.

Rushing is not for exchange students that are only here a semester. Sorority life is not for you.

Re-rushers make no sense to me. You're highly unlikely to get better options as a sophomore than you did as a freshman. Unless your gpa shot up. But that rarely happens because if your gpa is bad in high school, it's probably not going to improve much in college.

I hate freshmen who drop out of rush because they didn't like their options. If you're rushing because you only want certain houses or you care about tiers, don't rush. Recruitment is for those who want to be in a sorority. Not those who think they're too good for certain chapters.

also rushing as a sophomore!! hoping to also get a gphi bid, fingers crossed! any tips??

Tip: Don't limit yourself to one house. Don't go into rush wanting a bid to a specific sorority. The odds of you ended up in the house you think you want before rush are slim to none.

Be open to process. Expect to be cut from some (if not all) of your favorites. Only the cream of the crop girls get into top houses. And you have to be even more creamier and croppier to get a bid to a top house as a sophomore.

Be open minded. To ALL the houses.
