how does informal rush in the spring work for sororities?

Spring rush isnt a thing. The only way to join a sorority in the spring is to get a snap bid. Sororities will hand out bids to close friends of actives that would fit in well in an attempt to meet minimum numbers. It's very unlikely and very few snap bids are offered, so it isn't talked about much.

You are correct, except these are not snap bids. Snap bids are to help get a chapter's new member class to quota during formal recruitment and are only given out after pref round is over and before bids are opened on bid day. Spring bids are COB and are only an option if a chapter has a few open spots by being under maximum membership total.

Maybe 3-4 chapters will take spring pledges and only a few at that.
