by: West Campus ReportPNM's: Many people at UT will try to convince you otherwise, but all that really matters as far as Greek life is concerned is top 8. For fraternities: Fiji, SAE, Sig Ep, Kappa Sig, ZBT, Sigma Chi, Delt, KA. Sororities: Pi Phi, Kappa, Theta, Chi O, Tri Delt, Zeta, AXO, Alpha Phi. All those 8 are good and I'd recommend pledging any if you can. Pretty significant drop off afterwards, more so for fraternities than sororities

^^^^true and I hate to say it because I have some super sweet dg buds but they have fallen off the social map somewhat. they're like a civic group or something.

Lesson to be learned to all mid and lower tier sororities. A couple of bad pledge classes can destroy your sorority's image for years to come. The Big 6 can easily recover from that kind of mistake, but the lower tier rankings are much less stable.

So like what's up with pike and ato? They never seem to be in the good lists like this but they are never in a bad fraternity list. Are they just in average fraternity limbo? Are they worth checking out? They seem to have good parties and rush events but never seem to be mentioned much positively or negatively

they aren't the power house 8 frats but are they solid, good chapters? yes. They have cowboys and spurs. If you can go for the top 8 frats, do it, but if you get ato or pike, take it, too, because they have a great frat experience at UT.

Thanks. I was worried they were considered irellevant with like lambda, zeta psi etc. So if I got a bid from the power 8 but genuinely liked pike or ato better. Which should I take? People tell me it doesn't matter because either way pledgeship will make you best friends with your PC so I should take power 8. But I feel like I might fit in more with the mid tier. It's just so early to tell what with only seeing them 3 times before

Go with where you feel most comfortable. Don't pledge a fraternity just because of its tier when you feel more at home somewhere else. That's probably the biggest reason people drop. Pike and ATO aren't social life killers. You'll still have plenty of girls although they won't normally be from the Big 6 for the most part. They still have solid brotherhoods if you feel like you fit in with them more.

I think it's safe to say that big 6 +2 is where you want to be at UT for sororitys. It gives you the most decent range without dropping too low where you can't wear your letters with pride. Upper 8 for the frats has a little more range but they are still all great chapters.

Maybe, but DG is not known to be very fun. They hang out with byx more than anyone else. They're not really loved by any of these fraternities. The other 8 all have a large number of girls that are sweethearts to at least 1-2 of the 8 fraternities listed
