transferring?
by: umtransferHi everyone! I was just wondering what the overall policy or procedure is when it comes to transfer students and getting involved greek life if they were already in a chapter on another campus. For example, if a girl was a member of Sigma Kappa, would she be able to join on Michigan's campus, given that she fit in with the SK girls at Michigan?

I don't go to UM but I was checking out greek life for my little brother transferring, I'm in a sorority and basically when you join a sorority/fraternity you are in it for life no matter the school you go to/if you graduate. So if you transfer schools and that school has your chapter that chapter has to allow you membership because you are a member of their fraternity/sorority. They have no choice, even if you don't fit in with their chapter's "personality". I've seen this happen in my chapter, we've received some transfers that were awesome and fit in well with our top tier PCs and then we've had some transfers that haven't fit in well.. our chapter is very close knit and outgoing, these girls were shy and basically had no chance at really integrating into the chapter well. You should do research on the chapter your transferring into and see what they're like, just to know what you're getting yourself into! It's hard to find info about that online that's actually true so I would reach out to someone you know who goes to that school. I've seen some girls who transferred from a top tier chapter in the south and into a bottom tier chapter at my school and they refused to be an active member of the chapter. It is what it is.

If you are initiated into a sorority, you can't rush and join a different sorority even at a different school. IIt depends on your sorority's national rules, but most chapters have to vote a transfer into the sorority for her to be a member of that chapter. I think that's how it works for tridelta, at least.

as far as I know they have to accept you. the recent Miss America did just that. Transferred from MSU as a Sigma Kappa (i think they are lower tier there though) and fit in really well with the umich chapter (well think about it, if you rage enough to be at MSU you probably rage well enough to be in skrappa here)

Do you know what it takes to get voted into a chapter on a new campus? Is there an interview process? Or does it really just depend on how well a transfer mixes with the other girls already in the chapter?
