transfer students in sororities

by: deltaaaaaaaaaa

i am most likely transferring to mich this fall and am in a sorority at my current school. it looks like the sorority at mich is “higher ranked” than the sorority I was initiated into @ my old school. but i rlly wanna be a part of my sorority at michigan. i don’t feel comfortable naming the sorority but it has a delta in it lol. would they still take me? once ur in a sorority u can’t rerush but I saw a post abt people not caring about greek life at other schools on here & im scared i’d not have the best experience as a transfer....

I met a transfer student from a smaller university at one of the many panhel events you are required to go to after joining a sorority. One of the girls I talked to was a junior who was a DG at her old school. I was a freshman, as many of us were at the event for new mems. She said she wasn’t happy in the sorority and that it was very isolating. Do with this information with what you will, I’m not in the chapter but I did feel bad that the UM chapter didn’t welcome her with open arms.

do you know if she lived in the DG house at the time? i get that i’ll have to work to make friendships with everyone and it might take time to get close with the other girls but was just curious!

Honestly I only talked to her at that one event bc we had to mingle with other chapters. Most likely not since chapter hours are filled in the fall and she was a winter term transfer. I don’t want to scare you though, I’m sure you’ll be fine! If you can contact the chapter during the summer and get a spot in the house possibly, you’ll be fine. I’m not a DG but my chapter would welcome all chapters. You are a sister no matter where you initiate:)

Can’t speak for any specific chapter policies but once you’re initiated in a chapter at one college you’re in it nationally so I’m sure they would accept you! I think that with any chapter on campus you get out what you put in so if you make an effort to get involved I’m sure any chapter on campus would be welcoming to a sister from a different chapter. I would suggest reaching out to their leadership, I think most sororities have their leadership listed on their Instagram stories or there’s probably an internal way to reach out to someone in your sorority who would have their contact info or maybe a database of some sort?

tbh i really can’t see anybody except maybe phi not accepting transfers. as long as you’re cool i think they’ll let you transfer in! i know some transfers in a few sororities who were in the same situation as you

I transferred into my sorority at Michigan, highly ranked at both schools, and still had a very difficult time being accepted.
