is cross bidding a thing?

One person said if you maximize your options in every round you are guaranteed a bid...another said you can still end up with nothing If you cross your 2 pref choices...is that true?

Yes that is true if you - most prominently if you are attending 2 of the higher tier houses at the end. Maximizes helps but does not assure anything.

If you attend 2 pref parties, and rank both of them, you are guaranteed a bid.

However, if throughout the process you have skipped a party to any house (without an excused absence), you are no longer guaranteed a bid.
