no more opens?
by: gdiWhat in God’s name is up with this ban to open parties? Not everyone gets a bid or can AFFORD to be in Greek life. Great job umich at not providing the college experience to a ton of toys students.

Not trying to sound like the stereotypical frat boy although I undoubtedly will. Tell me why I should have to put up with bs for a whole pledge semester when kids who didn’t do anything reap the same benefits. Why should you be able to come into my house and drink the booze that comes out of my dues. What if you damage the house? Then I pay for it, not you. I get that not everyone can afford it and in a perfect world they could, but the world isn’t perfect and the people who can afford it shouldn’t be penaliz

Frats have always had the ability to individually turn people away so this argument about working hard/not wanting geeds to come drink you booze and take your girls is irrelevant. What it comes down to is now the university is making that choice FOR the frats which then excludes a specific socioeconomic group. As someone in Greek life, it’s blatantly obvious to me that the university is taking step after step to phase out Greek life and they’re doing it in just small enough steps that people won’t get up in arms. But just wait, in 10 years there will be no Greek life here.

Most frats are more than willing to accommodate brothers who can't afford full dues, whether it be in reduced dues, social bids, or payment plans. If. you get a bid somewhere, no one wants money to stop you from joining. Just ask about it during rush, brothers will usually be open because they know finances are a serious issue for some students.
