new social policy
by: WaspsCan we just talk about how by eliminating open parties the school is forcing people to join frats/sororitys and contributing to the economic divide at this school? “You have to be guestlisted to get into a party” which means you have to be in/know someone in a frat/sorority. NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD TO BE IN A FRAT,/sorority NOT EVERYONE HAS FRIENDS IN A FRAT/sorority. The idea that you have to be someone/know someone is idiotic and exclusionary.

the problem is that frats' insurance policies do not cover open parties that generally violate risk management policies, so both the individual members of the frats, and possibly even u of m administrators, have financial liability for non-frat guests if something goes wrong. the only thing that is surprising about a new policy to eliminate open parties is that it has taken this long to happen.

I’m a geed and I’m so upset. I can’t go to frat parties where I can drink free alcohol and be a liability to all the brothers in the house anymore. This is so unfair, I am a geed and student at the university of Michigan which gives me every right to be able to attend any fraternity party I want. Rules like this that divide the community are why me and other geeds work day and night to bring an end to greeklife on this campus. If geeds can’t party, then nobody can party.

Fraternity "Insurance" is a giant scam. There are so many things in the policies that can void them that they never, ever, pay out. If this is a reason it's a bad one.
