how important is it to know someone? (winter rush)

I'm planning to rush a few frats in the winter, and have friends in the ones I'm looking at. Is it worth my time to also check out other houses where I don't know anyone? I'm sure I'll miss out on houses with dudes i'd chill with if I don't go, but if bids usually only go to friends of brothers in the winter it wouldn't be worth going
