no boys and drinking policy during rush???
by: wonderinghi I'm a pnm and I was reading the rules about rush and saw that we aren't allowed to drink or fraternize with boys during the formal rush process. can someone elaborate on what that means? I guess I'm a little confused because rush is over the course of 3 weeks not just one, and there are tailgates and other parties so I'm just wondering on how that works out or how strict it is

All the open house events cannot have alcohol present. Even guys in the fraternity cannot hold or drink a beer or the entire fraternit can get into major trouble with the IFC. These events are more of a time to get out and meet the brothers of the house and the closed events are where things get a little different. Tailgates are open events and there will be plenty...I mean plenty of alc there.

every fraternity will have 2-3 "open houses" which are casual events around dinnertime during the school week, and those have no alcohol. Then there's closed events at night, which every fraternity does differently but they are basically under the radar events with booze. Technically you could get in trouble for them but they fly under the radar. Obviously people drink at tailgates and stuff, but theres no other parties allowed during rush for both sides of greek life.

Formal rush for girls is not super strict when it comes to "dry"... The entire recruitment schedule is even planned around game days. When I was a freshmen I still went to whatever open parties were going on and walked around to different tailgates.. But fair warning this is a time when sororities scout out liabilities... They will definitely remember the freshmen girls at parties who they don't want representing their house.
