how important are recommendations for sororities?

I've heard conflicting things about the importance of recommendations for sororities. How necessary are they to get a bid?

They are very necessary and it does help your chances on getting a bid.

It depends on the house. Every group has different membership selection criteria.

They aren't "necessary" to get a bid, but they could make the difference between you and another PNM to make the final cut. They can only help you so if you have the opportunity to get recommendations then do it.

Most of the sororities do look for recommendations. The PNM that don't provide "recs" is usually a 50/50 chance they will get a bid. My advice....have some recs on hand.
