rec letters

Do sororities here care about rec letters, or do they not take it that seriously?

honestly no. Unless your mother or sister went to Tulane and was in a house, it's gonna be taken more seriously then someone who was in a sorority at a different school. Send them in if you want, but they don't make or break rush.
