what happened to umd

Gonna catch a lot of hate for this but just saying it to motivate...Maryland Greek life has gotten substantially worse as a whole over the last few years. Any senior/rising senior will vouch. It has sucked to watch Maryland go from a top 20 party school in the country to happy hour being the highlight of everyone's week. College ave. used to be crowded every other night and day drinks used to shake old town. Whens the last time a top frat (or any for that matter) has actually thrown something people will remember being dope...Everyone's mad complacent and when seniors leave nobody's gonna be around that knows how it was done right. Let's turn tf up this summer through next semester

Top frats run on name recognition. The mid and lower tier frats actually party, during the snow day drink lambda and phi psi had hella people in their backyards. Also ragers now a days get shutdown quickly and sororities are taking a lot of party houses

Well the thing is pike and dchi used to partied hard then they got kicked out. Umd has been to picky about kicking out frats

UMD is starting to get more selective. So we're moving away from the hardcore party scene we used to have. Top tiers are too afraid of getting kicked and UMD is really looking to kick frats off

There's been a revolving door of frats for a decade, this isn't new. I really think it's that our selectivity has gone up and our Greek life still stays majority underground with events, meaning you'll get in extra trouble if something untoward happens because it's illegal to be happening. Plus, DFSL is also trying to build that relationship with the city itself, hence things like no kegs and eggs.

I have a feeling in like 40 years ifc frats will all be gone and academic frats will be the next big thing

Well the kids that come here now a real soft, nothing like they used to be and it's just getting worse. Plus UMD gets a lot of bad coverage now a days

some of what you guys are saying is true but when it comes down to it, umd is a school full of nerds and geeds. All the rad kids go SEC/to funner schools cuz umd is too hard to get into. It's only gonna go downhill from here unfortunately. Doesn't help that the town of CP is just lame.

UMD isn't hard to get into. UVA is actually hard...and still have a potent greek scene.
