recs and other questions

by: 2023

I was accepted to UCLA last Friday and have a few questions about recruitment.

A) How important are recs and how many do you need? My mom was in a southern sorority where two recs per house isn't unusual. Will one be enough? Not tryna seems lke a tryhard.

B) Is legacy important here? I understand it guarentees nothing, but I was just curious if houses care.

C) What are football days like? I know y'all don't dress up, but do houses have their own tailgates or go with frats?

Thanks!

a) no one really submits letters of rec here it’s considered kind of try-hard and idk just not generally done. greek life is a lot more relaxed here.
b) legacy is important at any school. it’ll definitely help you. still not a guarantee but i’ve seen a couple girls get into houses i wouldn’t expect for them due to legacy.
c) they generally pair up with frats. they’ll have a pregame w the frat and take a bus to the rose bowl together. once you get to the rose bowl every frat has a designated “plot” of grass but you’re free to stay or go to other frats if you want to.

agree with everything said. and we don't dress up like the south does for game days, but we do cute game day clothing! think cheer skirts, tube tops, fun glasses, etc.

Recs are not required and most houses don’t even read them at ucla.
Legacy will get you through a few rounds of rush but not a guarantee to get you a bid
