frat/sorority marriage?

Why do people talk about which frat/sorority others are married to a ton? Is it a more important mixer than the seemingly 100s of other ones that happen?

it's usually just freshmen trying to learn more about the scene. I'm not in greek life but from what I understand there's a couple themed parties/mixers where a the frat & sorority "marry" each other/there's a mock ceremony. That's kind of it tho.
