greek system falling off
by: unfortunatebeing in fourth year, it's really sad to see that the boys joining frats are getting less and less attractive. other than the cuties in phi delt and sig (who actually bother to work out), the new pledge classes just keep getting worse and worse. i don't even bother going to exchange anymore, but maybe i've just grown out of it. i remember during my rush year where i didn't spot a single guy from any frat that couldn't get it (iykyk). now i swear it's a bunch of virgins joining these frats. is the greek system dead?

Facts. Kappa, GPHI, DG used to be full of dimes and beautiful girls, and now, not so much. If people can say this about frats we can absolutely say the same about sororities. I guarantee you if the original post was about sororities, it would have tons of downvotes.

The only strats that have maintained their number of dimes through out the years are kappa and Adpi. Dg still has their older few like OR and TT...but 6 years ago, dg was legit 90% bombshells..now they are morphing into the same level as gphi. Not a bad thing.

Dg and gamma phi have not recruited well since the mid 2010s. Adpi improves more and more every year and kappa has always been pretty consistent

say what you will adpi did not do well with recruitment this year. they literally had 4 good years......that is it. Are the girls and guys getting worse and worse probably but don't tell me adpi has recruited well this year cause that is false info.

This year DG GPhi and Kappa did much better than ADPi, yes. But their 2016 and 2018 pcs were the best out of all chapters. Considering that they weren't as strong as the other 3 in the past, they've been doing a lot better than them as of lately usually and are still the best looking chapter overall even if they didnt do well this year

Huh? Someone said Adpi did best in 2016 when half their class were dg kappa gphi rejects (and black list) and the other half that were decent ppl dropped lol we all called it the fluke year for em

As a 5th I can definitely say both the boys and girls have gotten far less attractive. Back in 2014 when I first visited ubc, there wasn’t a single overweight girl in any of the top tiers. Now they’re everywhere. On the guys side too, there’s just not enough studs joining the system anymore. Tbh, I don’t think that’s it’s that kids aren’t joining the system, it’s that any homegrown Canadian beauty would much rather go to Queens, WU or McGill.

truth is it has dropped off. the quality of people rushing isn't as good for sure don't know the reason. currently in 3rd year and I know so many people not returning for 4th which makes me so sad. this year ended so early for us all and its been just a wack year from the start with the whole calling out frats etc., not being able to have exchanges, no formals, no acf. Honestly, it sucks! My first and second year in the greek system was the time of my life. :( The people joining now will never know what it was like.

There are just better options and more stuff going on on campus now than there used to be. It used to be that going to the frats was the only way to really go to decent parties esp for first/second years, people who were really well connected/involved on campus were all in sororities/frats but now there are so many other options and the energy on campus is so 'meh' towards Greek life that it's not surprising less and less people want to go through recruitment. And a lot of negative stereotypes about it that it becomes a harder sell each year

When you pay to be in an organization there has to be a tangible benefit to it - better social life, better connections, fun parties, etc. When there are so many other groups on campus that offer these things without the kind of outdated/negative stereotypes that being in a frat or sorority have, it's pretty hard to justify. Like it already is seen as pretty uncool to be in Greek life by most people at UBC that aren't in the system. I don't know how you come back from that tbh.

It’s already uncool why do you think sorority pledge classes had over 40 members in the past and this year some only had 25 before cob?

eh.... kappa, gphi and dg have been going very downhill these past 2-3 years. gphi sort of made a comeback this year after not recruiting an overall hot pc since like 2016 and so did DG to some extent BUT nothing like how it was years ago. adpi is the only one thats still pretty good as a whole and actually get better year after year tbh
and thats probably because of the quality of girls going through recruitment (same goes for frats)
