how expensive are sororities
by: hiIn addition to the annual fee, Ive heard you also have to make donation? Are there really significant expenses apart from the annual fee?

Each sorority has fees of around $1300 or so a year. This can be split and paid by semester, or paid monthly in smaller amounts.
In addition to dues, which cover the cost of Rec teams, sisterhood events, rent for the chapter room in Panhellenic House, guest speakers on issues like mental health for chapter meetings, etc. there are also optional additional expenses. For example, there will be merch orders where you can choose if you want to chip in with a big group and get a sorority sweater or t-shirt, but you don't have to if you don't want to. and obviously there will be things like dinners and coffee and stuff that you get invited to.
Each sorority also supports a charitable organization that they host one or two fundraising events for each year. Depending on the sorority, some ask you to make a donation, but most just ask you to contribute time in the form of helping out with the event, making baked goods to sell for fundraisers, etc.

I think $1300 is as expensive as they get. Some sororities also require extra costs for semi and formal, you have to “buy” a ticket to go. My sorority is less than 1k a year and we don’t have any extra costs. So it all really depends on where you end up.
