the south
by: I wishI wish I could have gone to school in the states (preferably the south). Greek life here is NOTHING compared to the ones they have there. Looks like so much more fun :(

I'm not from the South but i came from the Central East coast down there, and after joining greek life here and meeting people, I can say that a large amount of people ere would not get a bid down there... At most, it would be bottom tier sororities and frats, maybe middle if youre lucky. Our greek system (American), is a lot different than yours.
That being said I have a great time up here with great guys, you all just need to appreciate the system youre a part of here, we have one of the best in canada by far

its hugely based on tradition and your socio-economic status. this is why you hear a lot about fraternities recruiting legacies. Down here you can't just get in for having a lot of money, you need the wealth, as well as a certain social status. If UBCs fraternities were to be placed at UPenn theyd be lower middle tier. These would be fraternities where theyre appealing to the more average spectrum. The top tier are much more selective. they try to recruit varsity athletes, legacies, and people that come from families where wealth and power. This is why you hear on TFM about kids whos dad are lawyers and could legitimately buy their way out of situations. Of course this wont be true everywhere here, and this system is near impossible to describe without being a part of it, but this gives you a better understanding
