sorority bids

by: Hey

So I suicided my bid and I got a call from Panhellenic to ask me if I was sure. Now they made me super uneasy. I only wanted to get into one sorority. I liked the 2nd sorority I did preference for but I've heard so many negative feedback from the sisters in the sorority so I'm not about that. Would Panhellenic call me if I don't get a bid? I don't want to go tomorrow and be embarrassed.

They'll call you beforehand and let you know. A friend did the same thing - so you do you. If you don't get in, COB is an option for chapters that don't fill their quotas

no it's not. some of the best girls in my chapter had to come through twice before getting in. there's so many girls coming through recruitment, and it's easy for some amazing girls to slip through the cracks. I wouldn't recommend suicide bidding though, because it lowers your chances of getting in either of the two sororities

Panhellenic tells girls over and over again not to suicide bid FOR A REASON. It decreases your chances of getting a bid from both chapters that you went to for Preference. They will call you to let you know if you didn't get one tomorrow.

wait another rushee here. Nobody including Panhellenic or our RCs ever told us single preference lowers our chances. I feel the same as OP about not vibing well with the second sorority. How is that fair to the girls who honestly didn't think they'd fit well in the second sorority?

haha so the term suicide bid is actually not acceptable and has been phased out! for future ref, please use single intentional preference to describe putting one sorority on your sheet. suicide is a very real and upsetting phenomenon and is not comparable at all to not getting into a sorority you wanted - bcuz ur life WILL go on.

Honestly it's okay. If you would've dropped the second preference anyway then obviously it's better to not get a bid tomorrow and then do COB events instead of not being able to go for another sorority for a whole year.

Some RC did let people know that single pref reduces your chance to get into your one sorority you put down so I guess it depends

Why would the sisters in the second chapter tell you not to join? If you dont get a bid its kind of your fault for not going into recruitment with an open mind

Should put down both sororities. And if you don't get in the one you want, just drop right away. If you only put down one sorority, it decreases your chance of even getting into that one. That's how the system works.
