Reality of recruitment

by: Kisses

If you get rejected from every sorority or fraternity it doesn’t mean you’re a massive loser it just means you weren't as good at kissing ass as other people in the fall

The problem with the Greek system is that in the US from 18-21 you are adult-ish. You are on your own to make your own decisions, but most of you don’t have a network of discerning adults to advise you through really difficult choices and you aren’t working to make your own money because you are in school. You are adult-ing. You have power and control without it really being what you built.

The Greek system is designed to have adult oversight to help guide you to keep you safe and moving in the right direction. We want you to have fun like we did and learn to be your own person to go on to be a value add to the world.

However, as the laws are written, no sane adult wants the legal responsibility of being deeply involved in quite frankly your sometimes illegal entertainment. (Drinking, and whatever else y’all get yourselves into.) It is too much liability on the people trying to help you figure out who you are and how you want to handle various decisions.

Your advisors should be given legal amnesty except for reporting harm to self and others.

1. The PNM numbers are set too low creating a dysfunctional system.

2. If the grade point is 2.8, bar people from rushing. It’s set at 2.5 officially. The “exceptions” and flexibility of the chapter policies create problems for the University and the girls. Unintentionally, it's institutional psychological hazing. Additionally, some people take harder classes and/or are heavily involved in sports in the fall because they are actually here for an education and other things. It takes a minute for these kids to realize the pros and cons of freedom away from their parents.

3. It takes the University some time to approve accommodations for people with learning differences like dyslexia. Some people just see 2D differently than 3D so it makes academics difficult until their system is in place. If they were admitted to SMU they will do fine in life, but it will take them longer to read. Their IQs are typically high. It’s just a difference.
