rushing in the fall or spring?

so I'm a freshman now (2023 class) who didn't rush in the spring/during January 2020 bc i didn't know much about it and I wasn't really sure...anyway I still want to go thru the rush opportunity and try it out/join a sorority but I will be a sophomore.
is there rush in the fall for sophomores (fall 2020)? or do I need to wait until spring of 2021/jan to go through the whole process of deferred recruitment ? what can I do to increase my chances of getting in as a sophomore as well?
