coming from someone who had no connections coming into smu and ended up in the house they wanted, greek life is what you make of it. it’s very intense here but can also be very rewarding.

It's a really good experience

For a good chunk of the students, they live and die by their fraternities or sororities here

Smu Greek life is nuts

Greek life is hot. You will have a blast and make lifetime friends.

Eh, very selective and brutal rush process to go through. Greeklife at SMU has its perks but at a school in the middle of a major city it’s also not difficult to find groups to join, places to go out, etc. without greeklife. I definitely think the SMU Greek system and selectiveness mimics that of a very large state school in a college town rather than a medium sized private college in a metropolitan city.

Greek Life is the lifeblood of SMU! People can say what they want and the school can tell the media whatever they want, but Greek life is HUGE at SMU! Yes you can survive if you are not in the Greek system, the administration is working hard to prove that you can make it but it is what it is! SMU is one of the most conservative schools in America and should be proud of that and build on that but the administration keeps trying to fight it (Suspension of 3 Fraternities in the last year)! The Greek system is alive and well at SMU and it is amazing that the board of trustees and the alumni have not made the administration understand this!

Greek life is pretty damn prevalent on campus. Although only around 40% of students are involved in Greek Iife, they also happen to be the same individuals who often hold positions in other organizations.
