Comprehensive Rush Guide 2023
by: PhD in Fratology
Seen a lot of self ranking recently, here's the IFC law.
Frats that self rank all the time: SAE
Frats that self rank sometimes: PKT, AEPI, Sig Pi
Frats that are rising: APD, Pi Kapp, Sig Pi, ZBT (Though Sig Pi and ZBT are rising mostly because of dirty rushing freshman in the fall)
Falling: Phi Psi, Fiji
APD rose a ton this fall picking up some many new social partners and really utilizing the pit to it's fullest extent, however the quality of their brothers hasn't grown nearly as quickly. Also who knows how long they'll keep the pit for.
Spring '22 PC was good for Phi Psi, however while they are better than mid, not quite top.
Fiji's recent pc's haven't been anything special, but their fall has more been due to a location far from frat row and a house that's overall not great for parties. Combined with more competition from new/recolonizing frats, Fiji is losing relevance.
Everyone else is more or less the same. Lambda's pretty much not falling anymore because of good recent pc's, however they aren't quite top tier anymore.
AEPI is alright but they really aren't top tier and any rank that says they are is probably a self rank, house isn't particularly great and neither is their group of brothers that cool. The house most likely to move into the "top tier" is probably Sig Pi.
However, overall the frats that self rank most are the ones in the lower tiers. Most notably SAE is an egregious self ranker on this site, they might be growing in numbers fast but the vast majority of them are are weird af. PKT isn't bad for their tier and and have been doing pretty well with a great party rep, however it seems like they oftentimes self rank above where they should be.
Here are probably the most accurate ranks:
Top Tier
1. DChi, Pike
2. ATO, Sig Chi, Bagel, Sig Ep, Acacia
3. TKE, DU
Phi Psi Gap
Upper Mid Tier
4. Sig Pi, Lambda, AEPi
5. AGR, TDX, Phi Who
6. APD, Pi Kapp
Fiji Gap
Lower Mid Tier
7. Dsig,ZBT,PKT,Alpha Sig, Far Sig, Chi Phi, TEP, SAE
8. Skulls
BOTTOM Tier
10. ADP, AKL, AXP (Crow)
Overall, some of these tiers may be big. However, realistically it is hard to put many of the houses in some of these tiers in a separate tier. For instance a strong Spring '23 might easily move a frat from the bottom of 2 to top of 2 and vice versa, however any movement from tier to tier in a single semester would probably represent either an extremely successful semester or a disastrous semester.
Some of these ranks are iffy (For example, it's hard to say whether Pi Kapp has crossed the Fiji gap or belongs in the top of lower mid). However, these tiers are fairly accurate based on a variety of factors such as party quality, social pairings, general reputation, and brotherhood strength (social schedule isn't everything, e.g. APD probably has a more active social schedule than Sig Pi, however Sig Pi has a brotherhood more comparable to top tier frats than upper mid while APD's brotherhood is more comparable to lower mid tier frats). Overall, pretty much every frat mid or above is at least functional in that they have a decent sized brotherhood and the resources to have a decent social schedule and should be able to potentially provide you with a good fraternity experience though the culture will vary wildly and that can create a very different frat experience even among frats in the same tier. Overall freshman should probably take the opportunity to check out as many houses as possible early on in rush and figure out from there which houses fit them most.
