If you’re in ESA or tril you technically still are a geed... they’re orgs. It’s not much different if you join any other thon org, you’re involved in a thing, good for you but that doesn’t mean you’re greek. And sure, you can survive at psu and be a geed. But if greek life is something you’re remotely interested in I recommend it.

Sorry ESA. You can hope and pretend to be anything that you want. But, you are not Greek. You are the same as Gamma Sigma Sigma, Omega Phi Alpha, Alpha Phi Omega and scores of other service organizations. The only difference is that people on campus have respect for these service organizations because they are true to their stated mission. You are living in a state of denial.

Why would anyone want to wait until 4th semester to go through recruitment if they want Greek life? Too much wasted time when you will miss out on leadership opportunities, living on the floor, bonding with your pc etc. It is so much better to pursue Greek life as a freshman. You have better odds of getting a bid and more time for fun. Spend first semester getting to know people on your floor, classes, etc. Get to know as many sorority women as you can first semester so they will know you when you come through in Jan. Avoid these clubs which will blemish your resume when you want to go Greek.
