SUNY ALBANY IS A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT FOR GREEK LIFE. All traditional social fraternities and sororities at UAlbany are either currently underground, under investigation, or in danger of being so. AT YOUR OWN RISK. Fraternities and sororities rat each other out here as the University encourages and even coerces them to snitch in the vain hope that they can save themselves—then the administration shows them how their fellow/rival fraternities/sororities snitched on them as an incentive to give up information on them as they understandably seek revenge. This is not a good place to study and learn how to live a good life, let alone to find brotherhood and character. UAlbany is truly Screw U. These are bad people running this place into the ground.

The most recent general, even universal, threat to Greek life has been the appointment of a so-called Commission to study “the future of Greek life at the University at Albany.” The treacherous UAlbany administration has already announced publicly that “its future survival is not guaranteed.” This is nothing more than a clumsy hint at their intent to eradicate official Greek life...driving it ever further underground. The University at Albany is not for you if you want Greek life without a fight and without the constant risk of being snitched on and ratted out, and possibly expelled from school for simply wanting to belong to a fraternal organization and enjoy the collegiate years. Consider going elsewhere, or attend UAlbany at your own risk.

Please be aware that Albany, both the City and the University, are uniformly hostile to traditional social fraternities. The Albany Police Department reluctantly patrols the student ghetto per municipal policy, while the University sends its own official(s) along with police patrols in order to identify and persecute actively not only the alleged offending party or parties at off-campus parties, but also the Greek-letter social organizations with which they are affiliated. This is all part of a long-term plan to eradicate Greek life at UAlbany. Prospective students beware of UAlbany...

Greek life is actively being killed off by a hostile, treacherous, and corrupt administration, beginning in Fall 1997. The UAlbany administration has driven nearly every social fraternity and sorority underground and plays one against the other, blackmailing them into snitching against each other. House parties are closed to outsiders and Greek-letter social organizations have been compared correctly to the secret societies. Nobody trusts anybody and worse still, nobody stands up for his or her constitutional and legal rights. Greek life exists in a veritable Dark Age, awaiting a Resurrection that will surely one day come. However, it will likely arise from the ashes of a moribund culture, phoenix-like,rather than take the form of a genuine Renaissance that is associated with a flourishing civilization. We have much work to do here.
