dues?

by: 2020

As someone thinking about rushing, I was wondering about how much dues are at each fraternity?

Dues vary by fraternity, usually somewhere between 400-600 a semester depending on the size of the fraternity and their national dues. Usually you can set up a payment plan with your frat, or you can get scholarships with the IFC at the beginning of the year. Don't let dues stop you from rushing. If you find a group of guys that you like, it'll be worth paying the dues

Great comment, also many brothers have gone through similar situations and know some jobs you can work to make money for dues as well.

Yea, most go from 400-600 dollars, but new members (pledges) usually have higher dues during that first semester. This is because national organizations charge initiation fees that include costs for things like brotherhood pins. Regardless of your chapter, the majority of your dues will go to nationals for insurance and administrative costs.

I have found that you save money being in a frat in the long run because of housing. Most good fraternities will have off campus houses that brothers essentially pass down. Rent in Williamsburg is cheaper than on-campus housing, so think of the money you save in living costs as reapportioned to frat dues.
