Honestly, it shouldn't matter what other people tell you the 'rankings' of each sorority are. It's all about what the best fit for you is. Trust the system and you'll end up where you're supposed to be. Keep an open mind when going through recruitment as all the women involved amazing! Good luck!

You have to give theta come credit. They're only been on campus like three years. It takes a while to get established.

It doesn't look like peeps here really know their history and the actual details behind the sororities on campus! Thetas were THE sorority in the early 90's at UVM. They definitely had the blond old money rich look down, but unlike Alpha Chi, Thetas were all classy-if a bit reserved, and did a metric ton of charity volunteer work without publicizing it. I was shocked to learn they'd inactivated the chapter, because the year I rushed, they had about 90 women. (Not sure what total is these days, but this is an example of how quickly the perceived rankings can change.)
Alpha Chi couldn't get to total through formal rush, and would end up COBing girls they'd cut anyway. As long as you looked the part, or could get yourself there, you could get in - they took a big hit in stature when they rejected a girl for reasons that many sisters said were purely racial. Everyone loved their house location though. 72-80 girls
Tri-Delts were the bubbly and cheerful, but reeked of desperately wanting to be liked. They got a big class one year that was so catty and created such a tension between the chapter and pretty much everyone for several years afterwards. Their house was under constant construction. 65-70 girls
PiPhis were the girls most concerned and impressed with what they felt was their reputation, meh! 45-55 girls
For contrast, Kappa Kappa Gamma had 6 girls, all great, but were inactivated by nationals in Spring '94 - they're one of the most popular on a national level.

Okay Pi Phi is decent but it really is just the same 5 girls are so. Theta is actually up there and should be a middle or top tier. Tri Delta is a bottom tier because they may have nice house but most of their girls are pretty awful and its pretty much everybodies fallback sorority. ADPi has actually stepped up this year and is getting to be a middle tier. Alpha Chi is a top tier and the sisters are pretty nice but their newer members are annoying.
