First, you need to have a GPA that meets the number that Panhellenic decides, which is called the all Sorority/Fraternity average. Then, each chapter has their own GPA that members must meet. You don't need to have a 4.0 but you should have a good GPA to be considered for each organization.

A 2.5 is the Panhellenic average right? Are most organizatiosn okay with a 2.5 or should it be higher

A 2.5 is really really the minimum requirement. I would definitely recommend at least a 2.75 or 2.8. I know that many chapters require a 2.5 to join initially but then require a higher GPA to remain on good standing in the chapter after the first semester of membership. Our Panhellenic has been placing a heavy emphasis on academics recently, and chapters definitely take GPA into account when considering membership.
