500's Name Origin

Has anyone on here been around long enough to know why 500's is called 500's or has heard from someone else? No one I've asked seems to know.

Because it’s meant to be the time like “5:00” start drinking after classes at 5pm

thats not really true. they are called 500s because at 5:00 is the last time you are allowed to sign your bid to a fraternity and the dry rush ends. Then at 10 it when the mixer usually starts so its 5 hours of pregaming.
