Sorority Recruitment

by:

You want insight? Here you go - Sororities do the choosing of the new members. The computer does not get anything wrong. People who do not understand the process clearly are the ones who try to find reasons why things did not work out as they wanted. Here is the process explained:

The Panhel algorithm is good because it pushes stronger chapters release more PNMs earlier in the recruitment process, allowing PNMs to focus on chapters that are a realistic option for them.

"realistic option" sounds really elitist and prejudiced

thinking you’re above the houses that invited you back is “prejudiced and elitist” then…tf

Realistically, how likely is it that I could get a COB if I got to house tours with one of the chapters? I've reached out, but I just want to manage my expectations.

It's really hard to tell. Some of the chapters that are doing COBs always do them, and others are doing them because they cut too many PNMs throughout rush. So in the case of the latter, they may be regretting cutting you after house tours. Just reach out to any and everyone you know to show your interest and hope for the best!

Seems like a lot of people are coming on here asking for info about COBs. It would be good if the ISC used social media to tell us all the chapters that are participating.

And for those who don't know, "Continuous open bidding is an opportunity for chapters to informally add members at any time of the yea

Chapters do not have to announce that they are offering COB's. They may simply offer bids as they wish with no announcement whatsoever. COB is not a mini rush and ISC has nothing to do with it. It is a chapter by chapter thing only.

So many students come here and are used to being able to get whatever they want in high school. Students who go to more selective schools have even more of this in their life experience, so the realities of a social rush where knowing people and being liked is far more important than a resume is especially hard to accept. But sororities are social clubs, not honor societies, and they choose their own membership; it's not a sign up sheet. Of course they are far more likely to go with the known rather than the unknown; that's not hard to see.

Then srats shouldn't even talk about academics, philanthropies, service, and all of that stuff during recruitment.

I ended up dropping because I didn’t feel as if I would be a good fit for my pref houses. I’m a second year so rushing again is not an option. What can I do to meet new people and not feel left out of the Greek social scene? What to do now?

Just contact the people you know or met and tell them you're really interested.

I went into rush not knowing a lot of what to expect. I was a little unprepared and honestly wish I used a rush coach. I made it far with most of my top choices, and I ended up in a decent (mid-tier) sorority, but I don’t know if it’s the right one for me (wasn’t one of my top choices). I feel like I don’t really connect with anyone and I don’t want to risk it if I ended up somewhere I didn’t like even more or didn’t get a bid at all. I would rather just stick it out than not be in a sorority at all. I was wondering if most sororities even took second years or not and if there’s even a point in trying to rush again.

It’s way too early to say you don’t connect with anyone- the girls that just joined with you will be the ones you will most likely connect with. Give it a chance

I got dropped from all my favorite sororities after house tours. My friends ended up in these sororities. What are my options? Do I have to wait till informal again? Or do I have the possibility for a COB? Idk I feel really sad and I just want to a join a sorority I fit in with.

Once your friends are initiated, they can help you. Don't be mean to them. Go low key happy for their success.

I feel like it just won’t work out. Like maybe there is a reason I got cut.

I think formal works better for extroverts but cob and informal work better for introverts. So if you’re a little more reserved in crowds it can work against you. Don’t overthink it, it’s a numbers game as well. Stay positive!

Obviously it’s too early to know which sororities will be doing fall informal rush, but any tips for how I could try to prepare now? Like getting closer with girls in current PCs so I’m more known in the sorority by this fall, etc.

I got cut after philanthropy and went from 11 houses to 3. All my favorites cut me so I like to hope I fell through the cracks but that many sororities didn’t want me is upsetting to hear. Can I even get a cob from a house that cut me so early?

How does COB work and when does it start? Also do I have to have connections to participate because I'm not really close with anyone in the sororities that I'm interested in.
