low tier sorority?

by: answerspll

Does it matter for girls what tier sorority you are in? Is it harder to get invited to parties if your in a low tier sorority ? Is it better to not join a sorority or be in a “bad” one. FYI I am a first year so I could rush again

It depends on what u care about, every sorority will get invited to parties and have mixers so if you don’t care which frats you’re going to then it really doesn’t matter. With that being said, the top ~10 frats will usually only have kkg theta ddd pi phi aphi and dg on the list , but these parties are also not impossible to get into if u aren’t in these sororitys

I'm in one of the sororities mentioned and I also have a ton of friends in "lower" tier sororities. It really does not matter. I'm sure you'll make friends in different frats and they will definitely put you on the list(even though lists don't really matter). I would say only rush again if you truly don't like the sisterhood. Don't do it just for the frat parties bc there are so many ways around lists(using friends' names, borrowing wristbands, having guys put you on it).

I second that you need to take some time to consider exactly what you are hoping to get out of Greek life. This site is skewed toward the parties but there is so much more to being in a sorority - the sisterhood, living in, work toward the philanthropy and even national networking opportunities. If your current option offers you things that are important to you don’t worry about which greek rank tier it is in. Plenty of awesome girls and opportunities for lifelong friendships in many sororitys.

above comments are true! you might not be on list for everything but the one of the best things about greek life is having a smaller social circle that you feel like you belong in! If you are in one of those sororities mentioned and you dont feel like you fit in with those people then there is literally no point on being in it. Being on the list for parties doesn't mean you're welcome there or fit in with those people.

i am in a “bottom” sorority and literally have never had an issue going to “top” frats whenever i want to go. truthfully you can just walk in esp if you’re with a group of girls, but you can 2also have friends put you on the list or use someone else’s name they’re not checking IDs lol. the biggest difference is that “low” sororities don’t have mixers w “top” frats. this doesn’t mean they won’t be friends with you you just won’t meet them at smaller mixers. so in short, there is no real issue as long as you’re a semi-social person besides who you mix with

if your main interest in joining a sorority is to only be invited to a party at a "top tier" frat...then you really are joining for all the wrong reasons.

As other have pointed out, all the sororitys regardless of "rank" will have plenty of parties, mixers, events, etc, and furthermore, there are so many ways around the lists frats use at parties.

Not saying the social life isn't a reason to join a sorority, but it shouldn't be the main or only reason.

Be yourself, and join at the house you feel is the best fit for you that offers you a bid. And if none of the places that feel right offer you a bid, then it's ok not to join. It's that simple.
