Quota was 46 new members. Who met it and who didn't? Only answer if you actually know

Does quota get reduced as more PNM's drop out - or does it stay the same (to the disadvantage of lower ranked sororitys)?

Good question. Quota is only calculated once prefs are over. It’s calculated that night right before matching starts. So the number is based on how many women attend preference parties.

Don’t most of the girl who made it to prefs write down that first choice sorority on their bid card? Why wouldn't they be first to receive a snap bid from their first choice ?

Guys get multiple bids and then pick. sororitys get ranked choices and then pick their members. Which is better?

"Why wouldn't they be first to receive a snap bid from their first choice?" Because that wouldn't be a snap bid, it would just be a bid because that pnm would match with that house's bid list, either as part of quota or as a quota addition. Everyone who attends a house's pref is on their bid list somewhere. Snaps go to pnm's who didn't attend that house's pref because that house exhausts their bid list without fill ing quota.

You can argue about frats vs sororitys membership selection all day long, but ALL campuses do it this very same way as part of NPC recruitment. UVA recruitment is no different from how every school does it.

"Snap bids are distributed on the same day as regular bids. The process will be facilitated by the ISC and will be distributed at the same time as regular "matched" bids. A snap bid is defined as a bid that is extended by a sorority (to fill quota) to the potential new member(s) that are next on its bid list. A sorority can still extend snap bids to women who went through recruitment if it has exhausted its bid list and is still under quota. Sororities may not have more snap bids outstanding than spaces left to fill quota. Potential new members must respond to snap bids within 2 hours. The snap bid period will extend from noon until 5 pm on Bid Day. After 5 pm, all chapters must end the snap bid process. Sororities reserve the right to extend Continuous Open Bids to fill vacancies in quota or total, starting the day after Bid Day"

So many rules. It’s exhausting. Do frats have to endure this torture?

Frats just throw parties and invite back the guys they want to join. ISC rush is more like a job search process, but with the position already rigged because you're competing against the boss's niece.

I want to be a boy and join a frat. This ISC stuff stinks. There’s got to be a better way.

"Every pnm who attends the pref round and ranks each house where she attends is guaranteed a bid. This is called "maximizing your options."

You will not get a bid from SSS or Gamma or KD or SK or ADPi if you are full of yourself or unkind. Most PNMs and sorority members aren’t but obviously some here are. It’s sad that anyone at UVA — an amazing place — could be that way but oh well. Karma baby karma...it’ll get you at some point

^ Can't stress this enough. I know girls who think they're guaranteed a bid from one of those 5 and then look what happens! No bid. Every sorority (I have friends in each of these 5) cuts the girls they don't want. Trust me, there are enough PNMs for all 15 sororities to be selective.

It's kinda funny to see sorority members come here to complain how unfair rush is TO THEM

What is the reason why you can't refuse a bid? That makes no sense.

By: wtf
by: agree

Absolutely. The sororitys have no problem cutting us, what’s wrong with “maximizing your options” and refusing a bid from your second choice if your first choice is giving out snaps or doing cob?

Does that even happen? If there are spots available in your first choice shouldn’t you match with them and not your second choice?

Sometimes quota is raised by ISC after Bid Day - thus the reason more COBs are given out . This doesn't happen all the time though which is why COB's are not a guarantee

That seems unfair. I got my first choice but if I’d gotten my second and then found out my first is doing cob I’d be furious. I wonder how often that happens.

Quota is not increased after bid day. A chapter may have a sudden spot to fill through COB because a pledge drops, but it's not because ISC increased quota, and having pledges drop is not something the chapter or ISC wants. If they didn't make quota and they were your first choice you would have a bid there.

If your first choice had snap bids to give you would have gotten a bid there. The way the computer matches it is not possible:

It goes thorough XYZ's 1st list, and if A also lists them first, A gets a bid. If B lists ABC first, it goes onto C, and so on until they have reach the end of XYZ's 1st list. It then goes onto ABC. If B is not on their first list, she is set aside for the moment. Once it has gone through every chapter's 1st list it starts with the 2nd lists. If ABC has 10 spots still to fill and B is in the first 10 on their 2nd list, she will get a bid to ABC. If ABC's quota is filled before reaching B on the 2nd list, she will receive a bid to XYZ because she was on their first list.

If B is not on either chapter's 1st list and they both meet quota before reaching her on the 2nd list, she becomes a quota addition to one of the two chapters, and that's a complicated calculation that the computer does based on a bunch of factors.

Snap bid are only available to a chapter if they exhaust both their 1st and 2nd lists and are still not at quota. So if your first choice had not met quota, you would have already been matched to them. If someone told you your first choice gave snap bids and you were matched to your second choice, they were lying or have no clue what they are talking about.
