Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 2.9 I’m going to be completely honest and what I’m going to say goes for all of greek life and not just this sorority. I would strongly warn against joining a greek organization for the following reasons. First, it is very similar to cults. They have there own rituals and rules. They will treat you like trash if you try and leave. Second, they will try and control your life. There are so many mandatory events and meetings. If you aren’t able to go or simply don’t want to you have to have a valid excuse (work doesn’t count). If you don’t end up going then you will be fined. The third is you will end up paying this organization thousands of dollars to tell you what to do and how to live your life. There’s no doubt that some people have fun and form a lot of good connections, but it comes with a price. Just be very cautious if you are considering greek life and know that you are joining a cult of “sisters” who will you only treat you right if you live by there rules. If you love being brainwashed and having people tell you what to do, then greek life is perfect for you.

Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 1.7 I am a former DG and I have since graduated. I dropped before graduating because I couldn't afford it. It's advertised as "the time of your life" and a chance to "make lifelong friends!" But that is NOT what happens. A ton of drama, no one wanted to show up to meetings, it was never ok to miss a meeting, even if you had class. Petty petty petty. No one ever talks about how much money dues cost and for WHAT. I had to sign promissory notes for like an IOU for dues. I can't even remember what we did. We had a party downtown at what I think is now 1Up and a ton of the girls were trashed, even though you know, drinking was "not allowed." Even the president and other officers were trashed too. Even within DG, it was very cliquey. My big dropped very early on, and I didn't even find out from her. My big was super sweet but was literally no help. So many girls would go to the meetings high. No one, no other fraternities or sororities or organizations took us seriously, like ever. When I was a member, the house was super small and it was never a positive, welcoming environment. No one ever attended any other meetings besides the weekly meetings, and that was barely. Even when I was a member before I dropped, there was barely any recognition or any semblance of sisterhood on campus among members. After I dropped, it was like I didn't exist. I used to talk to like 6 girls after I dropped; now I don't talk to any of them, Yeah, life goes on, we grow up, but I thought the values that they tried to cram down our throats were different than ignoring "sisters," being disrespectful and rude. I remember hearing a lot of trash talk from other, older members about other sororities and fraternities. I remember hearing a lot of rumors about hazing that sororities and fraternities put their pledges through. I don't ever remember being hazed, but that might have changed. I remember hearing from older members that being with a DG was like riding a scooter; you don't want your friends to see you do it, but it is fun. I don't ever remember being included in things. I remember being made to feel guilty for having class or having to work when I couldn't make events. Even if I had class or work, I would essentially get a write up for missing events... because of class or work. I wanted to join DG because when I went through recruitment, everyone was so nice and welcoming and fun to be around. It turns out that was just a facade. No one was as friendly as they were during recruitment; it was just fake. Not very classy, hypocritical, fake, superficial, and exhausting. I always thought joining Greek life was going to be life-changing for the better; it was just exhausting and expensive. I learned from it, but sometimes I wish I hadn't of joined. It was hyped up, but it didn't live up to any of it.

Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 1.5 If you scroll down, the user “DeeGees” gives a very accurate description of Delta Gamma. I’d only like to reword one section. They say that “DG is now unaffiliated after badmouthing all other unaffiliated frats and sororities.” I believe they ment that as, DGs were well known for talking down to sororities and frats that we’re unaffiliated and it’s now ironic that they are themselves. I was a member of DG in the past. We always struggled to attract girls to our events. Even when fines were raised and more strictly enforced many girls used it purely to go to parties. The Drinking and driving incidents are also well known among members. In my experience many bigs were often poor examples for there little. The GPA situation has improved slightly. Also at the end of this year many sisters in leadership positions were extremely vocal in not enjoying there time in DG and understanding why younger girls were leaving. Greek Life is all about appearance. The videos we post for recruitment are purely To attract girls ... we promise them “friends” and memories in exchange for money, bad experiences, and stress. There are good DGs !!! But you need to work extremely hard in this sorority just to feel as though your really doing philanthropy, as opportunities are limited. Drugs such as Molly, Cocaine, and Xanax are used frequently at events/socials. Underage drinking and smoking is condoned and seemingly encouraged as it makes us seem more “fun”. We were pressured to be seen as “entertaining” to Fraternities. I dropped with a number of other girls. There are Greek Organizations on campus that are much better !! DG is not the worst ... but not very good. I made some enjoyable memories but am much happier volunteering here at UNR. During initiation you feel special. Putting on the potato sack feels empowering for a moment. However this will fade as you realize it was just to get you in. Once they have your money things change. Good luck -I have posted this before only to have it removed. I believe it is extremely important that the young women seeking out a Greek experience are aware of the problems they will face with DG. I have heard from friends still apart of DG that this semester was full of drama and unneeded hostility, however I can’t comment on specifics as I have left Delta Gamma.

Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 5.0 I’m tired of all the hate I see on this site. So I’m going to rate all the sororities perfect scores. Instead of bringing each other down, let’s build each other up and instead of worrying about each individual score and what rank it is. Let’s give perfect scores to all sororities and get a higher overall score!

Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 1.0 They’re just not very cute. And they don’t really have a presence on campus, I always see girls repping tri delt, sig kap, theta, pie phi, even the other one. But I literally never see these chicks, and the ones that I have are not cute

Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 1.0 All they do is talk bad about eachother and everyone else. I’ve met a few nice ones but they honestly just hate everyone in other sororities. They so desperately want to be the top house but they don’t even have a house

Delta Gamma - ΔΓ Sorority at University of Nevada, Reno - UNR 1.0 Honestly, this chapter is just behind AOII in the race for worst chapter. They have no house, they are extremely snobby and offish, and all they do is talk trash about other fraternities and sororities. They say they’re either ‘better than SK or Tri Delta in every way’ or they say ‘the fraternities suck cuz they don’t wanna hang out with us’. Start being social/nice and get a house before you talk trash about everyone else. They also always fight with each other, whether sober in their chapter meetings or out at the bars/parties. Meanest group of girls out there.
