The above link is the recent article regarding the remaoval of Pi Beta Phi members.

A University of Maine sorority kicked half its members out last night in a surprise move from it's national chapter. By the end of the evening police and Fire Departments had to be call to the scene.

The Pi Beta Phi sorority was already on thin ice from being on probation for more than a year, but over the weekend, six members were dismissed from the UMaine chapter of the Pi Beta Phi all women fraternity for breaking sorority policies.

The national office of the Pi Beta Phi sorority sent regional officials to visit UMaine's chapter Sunday night... that's according to UMaine spokesperson Margaret Nagle. A source directly involved with the process, but who wants to remain anonymous, told me the visit was a surprise to the local chapter. That source also said that in her opinion the policies the national office said were broken did not merit kicking out six of the sorority's members. The anonymous person would not comment on what policies were broken.

When asked about the incident, the national Pi Beta Phi fraternity chapter simply stated in an email, "Pi Beta Phi Fraternity officers visited our University of Maine chapter on Sunday. The visit was made to ensure the chapter was adhering to and complying with Pi Phi policies and receiving the premier member experience Pi Beta Phi promises."

According to the anonymous source, several of the dismissed girls were upset enough to burn their clothing that displayed the fraternity's letters outside of their Orchard Trails apartment complex, prompting reports to Orono police and fire departments. The police chief confirms that officers and fire department members did respond to the complex around 9 last night, but the fire was already out.

Chief Josh Ewing of the Orono Police Department says a report of the fire will be turned over to the Forest Service, but he does not expect any charges to be filed.

Kay, like who didn't see this happening. I'm surprise a complete membership review wasn't conducted on the chapter, it should have though.

Why were they on probation to begin with?
