Living in the sorority house

by: Living in

I’d really like to live in a sorority house during my sophomore year. Do most girls want to live in? Is it really competitive and difficult to get a place in a house? Are the house rules strict? Are the house moms strict or nice? Just wondering everybody’s experience of trying to live in.

Yes, it is usually kinda competitive to get a place in the house. You have to get points for different activities and whoever has the most point, based on girls who want to live in, will get a spot. I know at least one sorority did it this year where it was whoever signed up first got a spot but idk if they are going to keep that method since girls were upset about it. If it is based on points make sure to go to events and don't leave it until the last minute to try to get point. Sororities tend to do the same point system when it comes to choosing rooms so make sure you get points for that too. House rules are similar to dorm rules. You aren't supposed to have alc or substances in the room. Unlike the dorms, they are allowed to check everything, even stuff that is not the sororities property. Although, they usually will give you a warning so you have time to get stuff out of the house. Some houses don't allow boys on certain floors and have certain hours for when guests can be over. I will say that when it comes to boys and house hours it depends on the sorority for how strict it will be. Many will turn a blind eye to it as long as you aren't being disruptive. For my experience, house moms aren't too involved. They kinda do their own thing as leave it up to the president and whoever is on exec for facility operations to be in charge.

With pc’s of 175+ it is competitive to get a spot in the house as a sophomore. Some houses are bigger than others but either way there are more girls that want to live in than space. Some sororities do a first come first served list, some do points, some do points just to get included in a lottery. The good news is you will know by October whether you got a spot in the house so you still have time to look for a place if you did not get in.

Just go to every point opportunity that you can and you should be fine. The process definitely separates the girls who want to be involved from the girls who don’t put in the effort.
