by: Wondering(Roughly) how many girls go through rush and leave without a bid from any of the sororities. Does this actually happen and why?

Mostly for grades. We have a sorority that is only able to make one round of cuts, so as long as your GPA is in order, you will get a bid; only about 5% of girls are actually released from recruitment. Another % gets released after pref, because they didn't maximize their choices and "suicided". However, last year, everyone who made it to pref received a bid. Another 8% choose to drop out of recruitment, because they aren't feeling it/didn't get one back they wanted/only have one left and are too stressed out to deal with it. It's mostly the girl's choice.

there are cuts, but many times it is due to the fact that the girl has cut herself out because she comes in thinking she must have only one or two sororities. It may not happen and if she cannot adjust she may not be open to others who are willing to give her a bid. There are those who are cut out entirely every year, but they try to get a bid to every girl who is left in.

many that are cut out is due to their own stubborn thoughts to only pledge a particular group or two. When that doesn't happen, they drop out and in that process, lose out. I can't say that no one gets cut out entirely even when they are willing to accept a bid to any group, but it can go a lot better when a girl comes into rush with an open mind. Let's face it, some think that if they drop out, they have a good chance of pledging who they want in open rush. Most sororities do not have any positions left after rush so that is a false sense of hope. If you honestly do not want to pledge a group other than what you have decided you wanted and they do not want you...there are plenty of organizations to join on campus. Lots of people are not in the Greek system and they do fine. However, if you do want to pledge something, come with an open mind and hopefully you'll find a group you like and who wants you.

Less than 5% are released from recruitment, and that is basically just for grades; also a fair amount of it is girls who chose not to maximize their options on pref nght. About 12% CHOOSE to withdraw because they got their hearts set, or whatever. If you have the grades, you can make it through recruitment. This past year, everyone that made it to pref received a bid. It is far more likely that the girl chooses to withdraw or doesn't maximize her options, than for her to simply be cut from the process altogether.

Girls have a better chance now than ever before. My cousin went through several years back, before the newer way of choosing for the rushes, and on the first night of cuts, she had 2 friends cut out. Beautiful girls with wonderful resumes...they just fell between the cracks since the sororities had a % they had to cut. The next year all that changed and it was a lot better with far less girls being dropped. Those that are dropped are usually those who decide not to pledge anything, only want one group or refuse to pledge a group they think is inferior. Guess what?! If great girls pledge those lower groups they get a lot better!!! It takes a while for newer groups to catch hold, so if you get the chance and you have really want to pledge a group and that is all you have..try it!
