2025 Sorority Descriptions + Ranks

by: XoXo Rush

Hi! With Recruitment opening today, I wanted to help describe the vibes of each sororities and some pros/cons that I personally think matter more than rank. I included “rank” , but it truly doesn’t matter in all actuality. However, I know to some PNMS they want to know before going in. I am a rising senior who has served in a recruitment position, I have come in contact with many of these sororities through involvement, and I am in a “low” ranked sorority. I still love my sorority because I know it fits my vibe best! Understand that recruitment is about finding your best fit and to find a chapter that wants you as much as you want them! Not about getting into the most top house. There are ofc not 100% accurate because there are always outliers, but I tried my best to be very transparent.

Top (essentially southern and highly exclusive):
ADPI: considered very southern and classy girls. many of them are from prime Bham areas like vestavia, mtn brook, etc. they are involved in campus. you will always see them in some executive position on campus and they almost always place in greek sing/panny points. they can be exclusive and strict on their members, but that comes with being in such a selective sorority. you rarely ever hear about them getting in trouble on campus. have connections with southern fraternities like KA. very strong sisterhood!

AGD: Similar vibe to ADPI in the sense that they also recruit girls from BHAM areas. Exclusive and selective during the recruitment process. Many of them are auburn specific legacies or have an in house sister and theyve made it apparent on their IG that they prefer legacies which can kinda make pnms feel alienated if they dont have a connection to AGD. Always has a candidate in miss hoco or miss auburn and a war eagle girl. Strict on members, but the girls ride or die for alpha gam. One thing i love about agds is that they truly are loyal to another. very faith based as well!

Lower Top (primarily southern and more social chapters)
KD: These girls are wealthy, classy, beautiful, and know how to have fun! They all bleed green, and are extremely loyal to their chapter. Have heard that it feels like highschool 2.0 because they tend to rush girls from the same highschools in bham, montgomery, and mobile. Recently got a good number of girls from north and south carolina also. Out of all of the southern top, these girls know how to have fun and go out without overdoing themselves. They aren’t as involved outside of Greek Life and they tend to keep to themselves and other southern top chapters. Can be a bit uptight, but that comes with being in a very homogenous chapter.

Phi Mu: Gorgeous, blonde, and wealthy girls. They are normally from southern states like alabama, georgia (wealthy atl suburbs), texas, and louisianna (specifically nola)! out of all of the traditionally southern sororities, they have less of a clean reputation with many of them having the reputation of going out like crazy and being fake. They can be wild, but also still be the girl to go to church the next day (sometimes lol). Very good fraternity connections. Super stylish and are always wearing the cutest outfits on game day!

ZTA: This is a hot take, but ZTAs past member classes have been stunning, involved, and have helped boost their reputation. Have the most out of state girls compared to the rest of traditionally top and southern sororities. Typically have in-state, FL, GA, TX, but also have northern

continuing:

ZTA: have a surprising amount of girls from the north like MD, NJ, etc. I think that is great considering Auburn is slowly becoming more out of state, and i love that ZTA is breaking the traditional mold of a southern sorority yet still retaining classy values. These girls are passionate about involvement and their philanthropy which i lovee. i havent met a zta that wasnt kind tbh!

Upper Middle: In the more “middle” tier sororities, vibes change SO much and matter a lot more rather than “rank”. These chapters can differ greatly from one another based off of vibe but are still regarded in the same way.

Pi Phi: Gorgeous, Instagram baddie sorority. This is controversial, but pi phi is regarded as a highly desired sorority during recruitment ESPECIALLY for out of state girls. They have girls from the north, bham, atl, and more! Although they are diverse in area, they aren’t diverse in looks. Most pi phis are conventionally attractive and thin, and that could be intimidating. Frats LOVE this chapter because they get to go out early and are stunning. However, they arent very respected in panhellenic’s eyes due to their tendency to get in trouble with alcohol, breaking recruitment rules, and so much more. They aren’t super involved on campus and arent high in grades, but since they have curated their vibe perfectly, PNMs will continue to desire them.

AXO: A traditionally southern and involved chapter on campus! So many girls from the south and also faith and academics based! A great sisterhood and an amazing philanthropy that they are passionate about. AXOs can be seen in every corner of campus in terms of involvement. Strict with grades and going out, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue for most members!

Tri Delt: They have been SOARING with the amount of amazing girls they have been recruiting and their involvement. Having Miss Auburn and connection on panhellenic exec has help boost their reputation. They are a good mix of in and out of state girls that value sisterhood, academics, going-out, and involvement. I really see them continuing their good streak with future classes! Cant think of any negatives honestly!

Gphi: A primarily out of state and party based sorority! A lot of the girls are from the north like philly, boston, and maryland, but they also have a balance with a good bit of girls still being from the south. They know how to have fun and party. Not a super strict sisterhood and always offering fun socials and events for members. They are social and bubbly, but they arent considered very smart or involved, However, there has been a lot of drama with exec and members. That could turn off pnms because Gphis business tends to end up on yik yak. Love the girls I know here! Very open towards girls of varying faiths, values, etc!

Chi Omega: Although they used to be a highly desired chapter, with them being on sopro from 2022-2023 it has tanked their reputation and future classes.

Lower Middle:
Alpha Xi Delta: The most southern out of the rest of the “lower” chapters. There are lots of Bham girls. They have some cute girls, but they have had a lot of internal issues with their executive board and previous PCs. A great COB option during the spring!! You can tell they had chapters like AXO and tri delt for pref. They aren’t super involved in campus, but they are involved within panhellenic. They can be a bit cliquey, but they are great at keeping their grades up and staying involved with panhellenic events. They used to be a more relaxed chapter, but have gotten strict over these last couple of pledge classes.

Kappa Kappa Gamma: A very relaxed sorority. There is a mix of in and out of state girls! A very diverse chapter also! They don’t fine, but the make up that engagement elsewhere. They are a very “non-sorority” sorority with many girls being from STEM majors! They are quirky and fun!

Theta: Similar to Kappa except they don’t typically have a huge presence on campus. They are very lowkey and are also typically STEM majors. Great for someone who wants to prioritize their academics over an overly involved chapter. They do have a few key figures that keep their engagement on campus up! They also COB a lot in the spring which is a great options for those who do not go through formal recruitment! I have heard that many girls typically drop after their sophomore year though which is why their member retention rate isnt amazing.

“Lower” but I genuinely don’t think it’s fair for them to have this label since they are still new.

Tri Sigma: They are a group of girls that support one another, and they come from many different places in the US! They try their best to keep members engaged and have socials and swaps just like any other chapter. These girls are genuinely sweet and this is a chapter where you can really help establish leadership! They have a girl on Panhellenic which is amazing! They dont have a strong national presence or support, but I believe that tri sigma will continue to find growth! They had a bigger pledge class last fall and a large pledge class in the spring which is amazing!

Overall, all of the chapters at auburn are amazing. There are things you can take away from each chapter both positive and negative. Sure, being in a “Top” sorority sounds great and all, but what if you don’t want to spend hours doing required study hours or standing on the concourse all day to get a point to go to formal. Sure, being in a “bottom” sorority doesn’t sound ideal but you could be the next person to be on their exec and lift their reputation. It is really up to what you really want out of your sorority experience. Hope this helps!

EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THIS:

The middle rank is SO wrong.
First off, Zetas pass pledge classes- stunning WHERE? Their past pledge classes have been extremely dropping and kinda off and weird girls. Actually very surprising.
I would put pi phi as more of a “looser party” sorority over phi mu and gphi. All of these are more outgoing sororities, but Piphi definitely takes the win on party- especially with their tendency for alcohol and dabbling in the snow. Piphi is definitely the sorority version of pike.
While the cultish vibe of Auburn tends to say the super in state, in terms of regular social value I would beg to differ that more out of state sororities are beginning to rise.
Gphis and tridelts pledge classes have been strongly rising, and I think their sisterhood, involvement, and religious side are beginning to become more common in their selection.

While i agree that Pi phi is the party sorority, it’s just not as desirable for girls wanting more out a sorority besides just partying. I know girls who would preffed ZTA over Pi phi, and ZTA is a lot more well rounded compared to pi phi. pi phis are rarely ever involved on campus and most girls tend to fall off after their sophomore year.

I feel like if any more out of state sorority is on the rise it would be Gphi and Tridelta, but Gphi has had so much internal drama this year. I think if Gphi’s exec could reason and strengthen their chapter then Gphi would really start surpassing Pi Phi in terms of desirability. They are a lot more friendly and well-rounded compared to pi phi. Tri delta has been killing it with representation all over campus like Miss Auburn, Panhellenic President, and more. I can only see them going up from here
