Does being a legacy matter?
by: NewbieI’ve heard there are so many legacies that go through recruitment that it doesn’t really help you anymore. Is that true?

Yes, that is true. Legacies get released all the time. A legacy is just like any other PNM as far as how the chapter makes their selections. Some nationals still require that legacies get a courtesy invite to second round and if they make it to pref they must be on first bid list. But some nationals have moved away from this rule completely and others are moving in that direction as well. Any legacy can find out the national policies and rules for that sorority, and check to make sure she actually IS a legacy, because not all sororities define legacy the same way. Honestly it is much kinder for the legacy to get dropped earlier so she can move on and focus elsewhere, much better for the chapters so they don't have to drop wanted non-legacies after first round just to make room for legacies they aren't sure they want, and allows those non-legacy PNM's to have a better chance. It's the moms and grandmoms whose hearts get broken and so, so upset.
