To be honest, I was upset that Elphaba didn't win best female vocalist. She had way more challenging singing and had more stage time than the Velma. I don't understand where the judges were coming from with that...

Elphaba has a beautiful voice and was clearly very talented, but she didn't hit those notes as strongly as she was supposed to and couldn't sustain them. That's the difficulty in doing wicked... That you gotta be a flawless singer to do it justice. She did it well and was probably the only lead out of all the shows who could've pulled it off that well, but her technical execution wasn't as flawless as Velma's.

I agree that the singing was more challenging, but that's like saying that she should have won just because she was CASTED as Elphaba and not based on talent. She did great, but some of those notes were very very strained and you could tell from the audience. Not gonna lie, I saw people around me cringing because she wasn't singing, but screaming the notes. In contrast, whenever Velma was on stage, she was a powerhouse who stole the show.
