rushing again?
by: NahSo I rushed this fall, and ended up dropping out at prefs bc I did not like the houses I was left with and the house I fell in love with dropped me at prefs... I really want to be involved with Greek life here, but I want to know how realistic my chances are of getting a bid in the spring, or in the fall as a sophomore

I'll be honest, there's a chance you missed your shot at being Greek. It depends on how open you are to ALL chapters on campus. Some people who re-rush have new options open the second time around, but more often people do not, and some chapters have a "once cut, always cut" policy. Really ask yourself: what do you want out of a sorority experience? Yes, some houses are a better fit than others, but obviously the chapter you loved didn't think you were a fit there. Others, however, did, and invited you to their preference ceremony where you'd be on their bid lists and potentially their sister. What was so bad that you'd rather just not be Greek than be in those houses?
This is real talk because I think you should be very realistic about things if you go again. ALL chapters on campus will give you sisterhood, service opportunities, networking, involvement on campus, game day barbecues, formals, social events, Panhellenic events, etc. If that's REALLY what you want (and not "I want to have prestigious letters"), then you should maximize your options. I know this site tries to draw big distinctions between the chapters, and some have slightly different personalities overall, but chapters are diverse and HUGE, and so you're guaranteed to find people you click with anywhere.
I wish you the best of luck in finding a future sisterhood. Be open to ALL options who are willing to give you a shot second time around!

I rushed fall as a junior and had a full schedule all the way through.I did not have something "really really special," like the poster above says. I had solid grades and decent activities. I knew some sisters but was not best friends.
I did not get a bid from a top tier house, although I did pref at one. -not gonna lie, it would have been nice to have gotten a bid there, and I'm pretty sure I would have if I'd rushed younger. Still, I would not trade the experience or my sisters for the alternative of never getting to join.I found one of my best friends here. They are right- you get everything and it is UF so there are great girls in every chapter. You might as well try- you have nothing to lose except a little ego.

I rushed as a sophomore and as a freshman and I had a fuller schedule my sophomore year than my freshman year, And I got asked back to houses that cut me back round one my freshman year. There wasn't anything super special about me either. If anything, rushing as a sophomore was easier for me because I understood the process. Go do spring and if that doesn't work out don't be afraid to rush fall as a sophomore. I love my sorority and I am glad I dropped my freshman year to wait to find my place that I actually belonged.

Thank you so much for your honest opinion, you don't know how much I appreciate this. Just curious, do you think rushing in the spring is even worth it then? I've been going to tailgates to try and meet more girls in each.
