rush advice

I'm a freshman and didn't go through rush although my roomate and many of my friends did and seeing their experiences, I know I want to rush in either the spring or next fall.
Problem is that I am painfully shy and very average looking. I joined a few campus organizations so I'm hoping that will help. I want to experience sisterhood but I'm worried that I'm going to get cut from every house during rush. Does anyone have advice for me?

Practice conversations with different people. Learn to talk about your best accomplishments but also learn how to ask interesting questions! Also, ask your roommate for makeup and styling tips on how to look your best. You can probably borrow what you don't have. I'm not telling you to be fake or cake on the makeup but you will have to look your very best each day.
Somewhere on these boards is a story about a girl who looked glamorous in her social media photos but went through rush with frizzy hair or walked out the door with wet hair or something like that! No one recognized her or believed she was the same person and she was dropped from every chapter. That's unfortunate but you do have to look presentable and be able to carry on interesting conversations with the sisters of each house. There are tons of sites with advice and hopefully you'll get more ideas from other sisters on this site.
